World Building A to Z: Scores and Soundtracks

My theme for this month is world building and setting. I've been totally looking forward to  today's post. I love listening to music, especially movie scores, while I write. Here are some scores I like from stories told with distinctive world building and setting. Each song here fills me up in a different way from the other when I hear it.

From Spider-Man: Main Title by Danny Elfman

From The Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe: The Battle by Harry Gregson Williams

From Life is Beautiful: Buon Giorno Principessa by Nicola Piovani

From Inception: Time by Hans Zimmer

What are your favorite scores/soundtracks from movies or TV?

Is there a song out there that you'd pick as the main theme or soundtrack for your WIP or for a day in your own life?

Words cannot describe how much I love The Lion King's soundtrack. And Disney film's in general.

I love the Dark Knight soundtrack. It's awesome. I could (and have) listened to it for hours without end while I write.

There are so many wonderful soundtracks, it would be difficult for me to pick only one, plus my tastes are all over the place. For some reason the opening to the Game Of Thrones just popped into my head, it's a good one. I've never tried this, but I'm willing to bet that watching a movie without the music score must be so emotionally empty to watch.

You have some great picks! I don't listen to music when I write. I need the silence. But I'm a huge fan of soundtracks! The music is amazing.

As a movie, Inception it is. But soundtrack - there are so many. I to don't listen to anything when writing, but there is music playing in my head, I think. Mostly Yo Yo Ma playing Bach.

Yes, I love soundtracks too. It really does make the movie.
I actually love the soundtrack to Big Night, French Kiss, and of course...Grease. :)

I would have to think about that question long and hard before answering, and this is not the time, but from your list I would choose Inception and The Lion King.

I have a soundtrack channel on my Pandora. It's what I play when I'm writing.

Big fan of Narnia, Crouching Tiger, The Last Samurai, and Lord of the Rings.

Happy A to Z!

I like to play the Lord of the Rings soundtrack when writing. Love the score in Inception, too! Soundtracks are the perfect background to writing because they aren't distracting, but you don't have to listen to silence!

I'm not big into movie scores, although the ones from the LOTR trilogy are cool. And of course one song from Tron: Legacy became the theme for CassaStorm.

There are tons of great soundtracks and yeah they can really make a world. Chuck comes to mind as having a great one throughout the series.

Zimmer is among the very tops for me, too. I wrote much of The House That Nobody Built to his Inception soundtrack. Another recent useful score is Christopher Young's work on Sinister.

I don't know if I have a favorite, but I do love how music, even in tv shows can help depict a mood. I wish we could insert music in our writing!

My favorite soundtracks have to be the Harry Potter soundtrack, the Narnia soundtrack and the Twilight soundtrack.

The Star Wars soundtrack is pretty classic, but I also enjoy the musicals. Fun to sign them in my car like Hair Spray and Chicago.

The first one that pops into my mind is the main title from "Raiders of the Lost Ark".

I find it powerful and inspiring....

I currently have a thing for the two new Sherlock Holmes Soundtracks.

There's just this tension to the music that I love.

I listen to music all the time while writing. Couldn't do without it. Evanecence's latest album was the soundtrack for my debut FRACTION OF STONE.

Great post! :)

There are so many great movie scores, and you chose well. This made me think about the music in the James Bond, and Pink Panther movies which are both timeless.
