Obsessions

Once I did a writing exercise where I was required to list my obsessions, whether they were things that I passionately loved or loathed. If I remember correctly, being aware of my obsessions was supposed to help guide my writing and make me more aware of recurring concepts and stuff in my stories. I can't find what I'd written in that old exercise, so I'm composing a new list of things I'm obsessed with.

What I passionately love: sunsets, wine and chocolate, good food, art, traveling, the company of loved ones, unsung heroes, super powers or extraordinary talents, delayed gratification, underdogs, random acts of kindness, karma, open-mindedness, and perceptiveness.

What I passionately loathe: post-nasal drip, waiting in long lines, being around negativity, bigotry, bullying, arrogance, people who dish it out but can't take it back, people who can be easily bought, abuse of authority, poor manners, being misunderstood, dishonesty, and injustice.

What are some of your obsessions? Tell me what you passionately love and loathe.

i love food--spending time with my family--and some friends---getting foot rubs---the Lord

i too hate not being understood---and passive aggressive people--not the people but the action

What a great exercise. I love food (your picture is making my mouth water, srsly) and cool breezes on hot days and, like you, delayed gratification.

That said, I loathe waiting in lines or waiting at all and when people are manipulative - that one really gets to me!

Love: My kids and demon husband, my family, writing, wine and chocolate. mmmm.....

Loathe: Arrogant people (Good Lord the world is filled with them.) Editing my manuscripts.

oh, ick. one of my obsessions is running over things i'm upset or annoyed about in my head. i wish i knew how to flip that off!

as for what i love - tea, coffee shops, travel, springtime, dinner parties, earrings, and yoga :)

I agree with all your loathes and would add: shallowness. What is post-nasal drip, though? Like a runny nose? :)

I love: music, books, my wife, the kids (particularly if we are all spending time doing something together), Ben and Jerry's Baked Alaska. Writing, of course. I'm sure there's more!

Great list! I like underdogs and random acts of kindness too. (And others on your list, but those stuck out to me.)

Bullying and jerks in general are among my least favorite. Some people don't even seem to give kindness a chance. It's sad when people are rude for no reason.

I like this obsession exercise; I'll try it myself.

I agree with all your loves and loathes! If I had to pick one more for each, I'd say...

Love: connecting with other writers
Loathe: stuck-up, unauthentic people

I'm a new follower via the A to Z. Nice to meet you, Cynthia! Though I now live in Seattle, I am also from the Bay Area (East Bay).

Lynn- It's been awhile since I got a foot rub...now I want one.

Daisy- Cool breezes on hot days-- I look forward to that now that the weather is getting warmer.

Mina- Editing my WIPs can be a drag for me too. But when I'm finished, I love that feeling of accomplishment.

Gina- I let things run in my head too. Sometimes I try to replace negative thoughts with positive ones.

Nick- Ben and Jerry's Baked Alaska- that sounds like something I'd liked to try...Post-nasal drip is the stuff in the nose that drips into the throat- it gives you an itchy throat, makes you cough, and sometimes gives you a hoarse voice. Bleh!

Shelley- I too find it sad when people are rude for no reason.

Nancy- I agree with the ones you listed. Nice to meet you too! I'll go check out your blog.

Lynda- I'd like to see your photos for those things if you post them on your blog.
