Day Jobs

Most of us aren't full-time authors and artists, and if you are, then that's totally awesome. Many of us have alternate identities. We might let our souls take flight as writers and artists by night, but during the day, we have to put on a separate mask for our day jobs. I currently work part-time for a city newspaper. I am also a stay-at home mom- that's my main job. All of you stay-at-home parents out there know that taking care of a child comes with duties around-the-clock, so it's more than just a 9 to 5 kind of a gig. As long as my child is up and about, I don't have any time to do my fiction writing. But I enjoy being a parent and I also like writing for the paper, so for that, I'm grateful for my "day jobs."

What is your day job?

I am still deciding on that elusive destiny job but to earn the pennies I work as a temp, currently I am a media assistant at a university (preparing course materials for presentation - whether audio, video or written). I guess it keeps me out of trouble, just! I mention working at a paper for the letter O and would love to know when we get there, am I anywhere close?

I'm a school social worker, but for 12 or 13 years I was a stay at home mom. I wouldn't trade that experience for anything.

I'm a stay at home mom! Best job ever. Most demanding job ever, too. Still, It's worth it.

Great post! I'm a student at university so my day job is studying. I'm doing a degree in Scandinavian studies so my 'day job' sort of helps out with my blog :)

I am a high school mathematics teacher for my day job :-)

PS - I think For year's A to Z Challenge I did D for Day Job! Or at least, I planned to. Can't remember if I did or if I changed it.

I have four kiddos: 18, 15, 13, & 8 years respectively. Yeah, I totally understand parenthood as a full-time J.O.B. I freelance when I can and continue to work on my books, while taking care of the family. Thanks for visiting Writers Ally through the A to Z Challenge. It's great to meet you!!

My day job is stay at home mom. I was answering questions for ChaCha and KGB for awhile, but it got harder to make any kind of money that way and it was sucking away all my writing time. I'd rather write.

Full time Mom of one. Part time work from home. Don't spend nearly enough time writing as I should.
Great post.

Thanks for sharing your day jobs, everyone! It's nice to know other stay-at-home moms out there with a passion for writing. And it's also cool to see what other jobs you do!

I was a high school English teacher, but my wife wanted to stay home, and we couldn't live on one teacher's salary. So I entered the world of business. Now I'm a sales rep for a medical company. So I travel a ton. Makes it so tough, but I hope it's worth it in the end.

My day job is now whatever I want it to be because I'm officially retired from my real world job in accounting and finance. I work almost as hard as I did before I retired, but I'm enjoying it more.

In my day job I'm an insurance agent. Not even joking about that. (Because let's face it, it almost sounds like a cliche.) Hopefully some day I won't need a day job anymore!
